ADULT MOVEMENT CLASSES
Welcome to the Adult Dance Club at the JP Gallery For Performing Arts. Here our motto is "Groove to improve".
It can be intimidating to step into a gym surrounded by body building fitness gurus. Instead, step into the studio! Dancing is a fun way to exercise without feeling daunting. Great music! So many styles of dance! No one to intimidate you! Everyone in the room is there to boogie-woogie and enjoy themselves just like you!
Our classes are great for all ages and levels of ability. We recommend our Adult Dance Club for teenagers who have an interest in dance but did not study it growing up. We also are able to cater to those who are not only agile, but also those who suffer from mobility-restricted conditions such as arthritis. Our class content can be executed at various levels of impact. Each course provides not just the movement itself, but also the education necessary to participate safely with knowledge that will help the individual better reach their goals. The Adult Dance Club at the JP Gallery For Performing Arts strives to provide improvement through movement for all participants and works with individuals to feel good both mentally and physically.
We encourage you to try out a class and discover the benefits of dance!

The following classes are offered on The Rotator:
Line Dance Groove
Not aerobics. Not high-impact, but you are sure to get your heart rate up and move consistently throughout class once you learn a few of the combinations. Learn actual line dances (some you know... Electric Slide anyone?! We are going waaaaay back)! There are so many! In fact, there are hundreds! Some are popular only in certain cities, and we are bringing them all to you! Come for exercise. Come for fun. Come to get ready for the next wedding or anniversary party when you take to the dance floor! Participants should dress comfortably and wear supportive shoes.
Latin Rhythms
Designed to give individuals the opportunity to learn many of the Latin ballroom and club dances such as cha-cha, salsa, hustle, swing, and night club sway, without the need of a partner. This class can also give individuals a cardio workout in a line dance form. Mini stretch and cool down segments are incorporated to keep you limber. You will gain better coordination and style on the dance floor. This course is not to be confused with Zumba. The content of this class teaches actual International and American category styled dance found in the Latin and Rhythm categories along with night club dancing. You are sure to get an individual workout but will certainly have the ability to easily transfer to partner-styled dancing if you desire to learn.
Hip Hop Holler
A fusion style of dance, incorporating elements of popping, locking, breaking, jazz, ballet, and tap, this style of dance is usually performed to hip hop, r&b, funk, electronic, or pop music. The foot work is intricate and is sure to challenge the dancer in a fun and energetic way. This class introduces the hip hop style in it's most basic form and is sure to make you holler for more!
Swing Swing Swing!
From east coast to west coast, jive, jitterbug, lindy, and everything in between, this class focuses on the elements of swing! We teach you all the basics and how to work with a partner in this fun social dance class. Even though this class focuses on partner styled dancing, you do not need a partner to participate. The class instructor will guide you on the dance floor. Participants in this class have the opportunity to visit one of Pittsburgh's largest swing dance clubs for weekly Saturday night dance parties if they so desire!
Ballroom Boogie
Ballroom, used loosely as a term that encompasses any style of dance that requires a partner, this class focuses specifically on the traditional styles of dance found in both the International and American Schools of Dance, primarily the smooth and standard categories. These dances include waltz, Viennese waltz, tango, fox trot, quick step, and east-coast swing. While this class focuses on partner dancing and the development of mastering the lead and follow, you do not need a partner to participate. The class instructor will guide you on the dance floor.
